How's this for a terrible neologism "bleisure". It is a portmanteau of business and leisure, and is used to describe what some people claim is a new type of business traveler: one who fits in leisure travel while on the road. This term can also be applied to business students who take time to enjoy and have fun while still studying.

Vigan can be found in the northern part of Luzon, one of the Philippines' main island. It serves as the capital of Ilocos Sur and has been a major political and trading center since before the Spanish colonizers arrived in the Philippines. Its favorable geographical location and features continues to make it a very accessible center. It is only 408 kilometers away from Manila, 80 kilometers away from Laoag and 139 kilometers away from La Union's San Fernando.

One of the places that you can visit in Vigan is the Calle Crisologo. It is enjoyable during the day especially because of the opportunity to shop for Vigan's best products: antiques, Abel woven products, bags, basi wine, Burnay, dimili products, chicharon, jewelry, sweets, Vigan vinegar and woodcrafts in the in obtrusive shops located in the ground floor of some of the grand houses, a walk through that is magical at night. Since it is closed to vehicular traffic at any time of the day, the stillness and shadows that come with the night adds more to the 18th century ambience of the lamp-lit street that local and foreign visitors love. Couples can take advantage of this romantic atmosphere by having dinner in one of the old houses that has been converted to a restaurant like Café Leona, before or after their walk and of course you will not leave Vigan without tasting their famous chorizo and Bagnet.

The Saint Augustine Parish Church, commonly known as Bantay Church, is a Roman Catholic church in Bantay, Ilocos Sur in the Philippines. Vigan Cathedral, canonically known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Vigan. Plaza Burgos was just right beside St. Paul's Cathedral Bell Tower, the square is a place for many locals to rest and relax while watching people walking by, kids playing, and skateboarders doing their tricks at the plaza square.

Food kiosks are spread throughout the plaza. For those who are food lovers, the plaza is a good destination for you. The plaza is best known for its empanadahan, a place for eating a local meat and vegetable-filled pastries, and other street food. Visitors should not miss the Vigan empanada which is said to be one of the best local foods. Also, do not let your Vigan tour end without tasting the snail (shrimp patty). It is like an empanada dipped in vinegar, plus a taste of barbequed meat marinated in wooden skewers with sweet-sauce glaze. At the corner of the plaza is Tongzon's, where visitors can have a taste of Vigan's royal rice cake, a rice-based sweet.

If you're looking for a weekend getaway, a trip that will not require filed leaves or missed classes, Vigan is perfect! The tiny city in Ilocos Sur is just right for a two-day, one-night vacation. My friends and I took a ride with his car from Metro Manila that left at 9pm and arrived in Vigan at 4am. You can fit many of the must-sees and must-do's in Vigan in two days. Because Vigan is a small city, the sights are only a few minutes away from each other by bus or on foot.
